Director: Zack Snyder
We see Clark Kent aka Kal-El (Henry Cavill) form the moment he is born till he grows up. The movie is full of flash backs so we see characters like Lana Lang. Kal-El’s parents (Russell Crowe & Ayelet Zurer) sent him away to Earth because their own home planet is about to be destroyed. He is the first naturally conceived child in a long time. His parents infused the genetic codex into his cells to preserve their race. General Zod (Michael Shannon) doesn’t want that to happen and so devotes his life searching for Kal-El.
Kal-El crash lands on Earth and is adopted by the Kents who raise him into a man. Since Clark is not human, his Kryptonian body allows him to have super powers on Earth. Throughout the film we see him saving numerous people and then disappearing. In his hometown, townspeople caught glimpses of his abilities, but his parents talked their way out of it.
On one of his random jobs, Clark finds a spaceship and discovers who he is. He also meets Lois Lane (Amy Adams), a reporter from the daily planet. She is determined to find out who he is and she succeeds. But promises to keep his secret because Clark believes Earth isn’t ready for him yet.
Well, he spoke too soon because Zod found him and threated Earth for him. Then the whole battle begins. In the end, Clark saves Earth and the humans love and respect him. But they still don’t know his identity.
I got lost a lot in the movie. I expected more out of it. It just wasn’t that amazing movie I hoped for. I don’t know why either. The acting was good, the story is good. But there was just something about it that was lacking and I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe because I’m more of a Marvel person verses a DC person.
There was one scene in the movie that might hurt a lot of superman fans. I guess he’s known for NOT killing people. Well. He kills in this movie and it’s pretty brutal to see.
An alright storyline. Convincing actors. But it just felt lacking. But I might not be interested enough in superman to enjoy it. Eh. Oh well.
7 out of 10 scoring.
