Director: Penny Lane
This film was a different take on the Watergate scandal during the Nixon administration. Instead of focusing just on Nixon, the film features his right hand men, H.R. Haldeman, John Ehrlichman and Dwight Chapin.
The film is made with just Super 8 home movies. The footage for the film (with the exception of interviews) was filmed by Halderman, Ehrlichman, or Chapin. The trio loved their home movies.
The Super 8 footage gives an intimate look into all their lives. You see these men not only in a political position, but also as family men. Men who are excited by their new jobs and by what the presidency may bring. Little did these men know that they recorded moments that could be used against them.
Director Lane merged the footage well with interviews from the three men. I enjoy documentaries and this one didn’t let me down. Congrats to this film for winning the SIFF 2013 Best Documentary: Grand Jury Prize.
My Rating: 8/10
