Now You See Me (2013)

Director: Louis Leterrier
USA & France, English

Surprisingly, this movie got really low ratings from Rotten Tomato and IMDb

The movie is centered around magic and the joy (or pain) it gives it’s audience. We follow four magicians; J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), Henley Reeves (Isla Fisher), Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson), and Jack Wilder (Dave Franco). They at first had their own magic tricks and stunts. But they caught the eye of an unknown benefactor. Within a year they become “The Four Horsemen.” They are the biggest magic show in Las Vegas. But eh Horsemen have another agenda. They steal banks and give to the poor. All while being chased down by FBI agent Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo), his partner Alama Dray (Mélanie Laurent), and ex-magician Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman).

Classic Robin Hood tale with a twist! They stole a bank in Paris and gave to their audience. They stole from their sponsor and gave to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. They put on three amazing shows while the FBI chases them. Little did they know there was a purpose to every stunt they pulled. In the end, the meet the master mind behind it all and it is explained why.

I really liked this movie. Maybe it’s the kid inside me who still likes magic. I loved the chase of the whole movie. It kept it going and kept me on my toes. Probably the best part about it is how they gave money to people in need. I wish I was one of those people who got money…

This bunch of actors I thought was really random at first. But they worked seamlessly together. They fit their parts and it was all believable. AND Dave Franco is always nice to look at 🙂

This movie to me is worth watching. It’s different than those out there. The crazy fight scenes and the bad ass-ness of movies today is NOT part of it. But to me, the chase of the film is what makes it amazing. Are they or are they not going to get away with it? Will the FBI be a step ahead? It sort of reminded me of the film Catch Me If You Can (only the chase and close calls).

My Rating: 9/10
